Welcome back to Art!
Your student artist’s are off to a great start in Art! It is amazing how many art skills GW art students have retained over the summer.
Art Portfolios will soon be constructed to house your student’s flat work. Sculptural projects will be taken home after being on display at Greenwood. Flat work will be kept in your art student’s portfolio throughout the year. Portfolio art will be selected to hang in the art room or in hallway frames as the year progresses. Please know that parents may view their art student’s portfolio art or request to take home a piece of their artwork by contacting Mrs. Pennie.
Kindergartners are working with textures. They have gone on a texture hunt and are now in the process of creating texture caterpillars. Soon K’s will decorate their art portfolios and move on to designing with shapes. The K’s are such an enthusiastic group!
First graders finished their Me Pillows this week. They did so well with their drawing skills – you may see some family resemblance when they bring their pillows home! Firsts will be studying colors and mixing paint in their next projects.
Second Grade has been doing some serious “art science” in developing new ways to paint VanGogh Sunflowers. They have shown their talents in painting sunflowers with vivid brushstrokes. It will be fun to see their end results.
Third, Fourth and Fifth graders are studying and drawing trees. Each grade has been introduced to two different ways of drawing trees. Students are combining their own style with their new skills - their projects are amazing! Art students in all three grade levels are surprising themselves as they acquire the skills to create trees – they are so fun to watch!
