Greenwood Art Review
December 2006

The first week in December, art was in the computer lab! The projects reflected what we have already done and what we are doing in the art room. Other computer projects gave students a chance to integrate art into technology in a new way.

Kindergarten and First grade created a winter landscape with one deciduous and one pine tree. Each tree was decorated with lights and some of the skies became starry nights! Both grade levels had earlier created landscapes in the art room using traditional art tools.

Second Graders created a holiday house all decorated for Christmas in the computer lab! They will finish their 3-D holiday villages in the art room the following week, using paper and glue.

Third Grade did two season trees in the lab – one a winter tree and the other tree from their choice of the other three seasons. Thirds have been working on trees throughout the fall in several different mediums in the art room. They are now constructing dragons out of clay.

Fourth Graders tried something new in the computer lab – they created rose windows. Their designs are quite wonderful and unique! In the art room Fourths have been working on drawing skills as they get ready to draw their self-portrait in Renaissance style with pastels.

Fifth Graders constructed houses in the lab, using one point perspective – they may try the same project using pencils and rulers in the art room. Fifths recently printed a landscape with tree(s) onto their covers. They will be sewing covers on to their journals when they get back to the art room.

Students have constructed Art Portfolios to house their flat work. Sculptural projects will be taken home after being displayed at Greenwood. Flat work will be kept in the art student’s portfolios throughout the year. Portfolio art will be selected to hang in the art room or in hallway frames as the year progresses. Please know that parents may view their art student’s portfolio or request to take home a piece of their artwork by contacting Mrs. Pennie.
