Welcome to the last Art Review of the 2006-07 school year! Greenwood Art has had a wonderful year with student creative activity flowing through- out. There will be one more round of student art work framed and hung in Greenwood. It will go up on Thursday, May 10th and taken down before the last day of school. Student artwork will also be hung in Central Office on the 10th. New student artwork will be framed and hung in Central Office for the summer months. Framed summer artwork will be returned to students in the fall of 2007. If there are questions about framed artwork, please contact Mrs. Pennie.
Kindergarten has been busy drawing self portraits, giraffes, pussywillows in vases, and different kinds of faces. In the computer lab they created self portraits. K’s drawing skills have improved throughout the year – they are good at listening and trying.
First Graders have experienced several art projects including drawing penguins, constructing paper and wood sculptures, and origami. Now First Graders are beginning their burlap stitchery unit. Firsts like to try new projects and are eager learners!
Second Grade has been weaving for weeks with straw looms – the finished weavings have been worth the wait – they’re beautiful! Seconds will finish the year with their figure drawing unit.
Third Graders illustrated their names with hieroglyphics. Teams of Thirds drew and colored Egyptian mummy cases – and are hung throughout Greenwood. Many hours of work went into these colorful Egyptian designs.
Fourth and Fifth graders have constructed clay boxes and animal pots – these soon will be fired and glazed. Kari Hussey, representing Willow River State Park, visited both the Fourths and Fifths recently. She presented a unit and project on fish for the Fourths and watershed for the Fifths. Both grades are currently working on related projects.
Greenwood Art will miss the Fifth Grade students as they go on to middle school – good luck Fifth Graders in continuing your art studies!
